About Adriene Caldwell

Trauma-Informed Memoirist | Author of Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines

Adriene Caldwell is the author of Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines, a powerful memoir about surviving trauma and reclaiming hope. A passionate advocate for trauma awareness and resilience, she writes and speaks to help others feel seen, supported, and empowered in their own healing journeys. Adriene lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband, and is the proud mother of a spirited 20-year-old daughter currently attending university. Through her work, she shares the message that no matter how broken life may feel, we all carry the strength to heal and live Unbroken.

Her
Story

Adriene grew up in a family riddled with dysfunction. From a young age, she became a protector — for her younger sibling, and eventually for herself. She experienced childhood trauma, untreated mental illness in the home, physical and sexual abuse, and the instability of the foster care system.
She could have stayed silent. She didn't.
Today, Adriene lives in Houston, Texas, happily married and grateful for a life she could only dream of as a child. Her daughter — currently at university — is, by Adriene's own admission, a handful. She wouldn't have it any other way.
After years of carrying her story quietly, Adriene made the decision to write it down — not just for herself, but as a beacon for anyone still walking in the dark. She is a firm believer that "boring" is deeply underrated.
Whether you are in a bad situation now or recovering from one, please join me as I share my traumas in the hope that they can be a beacon for you — a light on what can be a very dark path. With each step you take, you are further from your maelstrom.

Life Outside the Lines

A stark depiction of childhood trauma, this harrowing coming-of-age memoir explores resilience in the face of unimaginable odds — and what it means to find your place in a world unwilling to play savior. Compared by readers to Educated and The Glass Castle.
